Project collection and review process

In order to encourage more scholars to conduct in-depth and innovative research, Peking University Management Science Data Center has funded 5-6 research projects every year since the end of 2014. These research topics have been selected through two topics: project collection and expert review. .

The center generally collects research topics in two ways from October to early December: 1 sending emails to experts in different fields for proposals; 2 through the website of Peking University Management Science Data Center, WeChat group, and the promotion of the Central Committee. Researchers who are interested in applying for funding in universities or research institutions collect topics. The topics cover a wide range of topics, including economics, sociology, management, law, and psychology.

The selection of funding topics consists of two phases:

The first stage is the expert review stage. The Peking University Management Science Data Center began in mid-December to invite experts to review the application for a one-month period. Each application is reviewed by two experts, and each expert reviews no more than 10 applications. The evaluation criteria refer to the requirements of the Natural Science Fund Management Department. The experts will give the conclusions and basis for the review and write a review of no less than 200 words. For all the submitted topics, the Center will give at least two reviewers' comments, and after the first stage review, publish the list of research topics in the second stage of the final review. The judging panel consists of more experienced researchers in various fields. Taking the judging expert team in 2016 as an example, during the judging invitation stage, the center will issue 34 judging invitation letters in three rounds, among which the invited judging experts total 22 People, on average, each reviewer needs to give comments on 4.2 applications. Of the 22 invited judges, 8 are from Peking University, 3 are from Renmin University of China, 2 are from Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, Beijing Institute of Technology, and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Fudan University, China University of Political Science and Law and Jinan University 1 bit each. Among them, there are 8 high-ranking titles (positive professors), 13 judges are associate professors ( associate professors, associate researchers), and 1 is a middle-level title (assistant researcher).

The second stage is the expert review meeting stage. That is, the finalists of the second stage submit the PPT presentation with the recording, which is no more than 15 minutes in length (this saves the cost of the foreign applicants and foreign applicants from going to Beijing, and makes the review process intuitive, transparent and fair). The reviewing expert will play the presentation in a unified manner at the review meeting and contact the applicant to answer the questions. After review by the judging panel and comprehensive evaluation by the center, the center can determine the subject of the grant and issue a project notice to the successful applicant in March.

The Peking University Management Science Data Center evaluates the applications for funding based on the principles of openness and fairness, aiming to provide researchers with a broader platform to make research more policy-oriented and academic.
